Dr. Berrie Middel (1946) graduated in both Medical Sociology and Research Methodology at the University of Groningen in 1978. After his graduation he started to work as a researcher at the Dutch Institute of Preventive Medicine in Leiden, The Netherlands. He continued his career as senior researcher at the Institute of Health Services Research of the Tilburg University.  From 1981 to 1985 he was appointed as lecturer in research methodology and statistics at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Groningen. From 1985 to 1996 he was the managing director of the Northern Centre of Health Care Research. In 1997 he started to work at the Department of Health Sciences (Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Groningen) on the PhD-project Assessment of Change in Health-related Functional Status in Clinical Evaluation. Since 2000 he is head of the subdivision Care Sciences.
